Understanding and modelling how pedestrians behave is a youngish field for researchers. Anticipating pedestrian flows makes crowd events smoother and safer, and accounting for the peculiar propensities of different nationalities is key to getting it right. (via theeconomist)

You know, in the first weeks living in Hawaii, I noticed that a lot of older Asian folks would keep to the left on sidewalks and move that way if someone was coming from the opposite direction. 
A few weeks later on campus, I noticed myself moving to the left to get out of the way for people…
